BBC Calendar — Here’s the Plan April 4, 2009

Great Expectations: finished today and looking forward to the miniseries!
What is the What: read the first 5 chapters (sorry, Kylle — they appear to be Roman Numberals again!) for the next BBC meeting.

  • Saturday the 11th: in keeping with our “take a week off after each book” policy, there will be no BBC on the 11th.
  • Saturday the 18th: since we’re meeting on the 19th for “Movie Night”, there will be no meeting on the 18th.
  • Sunday the 19th: Meet at 3:30 at Ant’s. Dinner will be provided. Email if you need directions. We can briefly (or more) discuss the first 5 chapters of WitW before starting the VCR 🙂
  • Saturday the 25th: Ant has to work, so someone else is in charge 🙂

What can I bring to supplement dinner? I’m not sure I know any 1800’s dishes but I can try 🙂

  2. antof9 Says:

LOL! I’m not sure I really want any British dishes from the 1800s … except if trifle was around then 🙂

I was thinking of making a couple of pizzas — do you want to bring some veggies and dip? or something else you like to snack on while watching movies? I won’t make the mistake of buying a 3 lb. bag of gummi bears like I did last time the Inspector and I were at my house (I can’t remember which movie that was!). That bag lasted for EVAH!

I’ll probably make a “traditional” pepperoni and then something more girlie and/or funky (and/or veggie). Whatever sounds good to you is fine with me 🙂

  3. Shanda Says:

I can bring snacks or something else for Sunday. Just let me know.

Do we know what we’re reading after What is the What? I need to spend $4 on Amazon to get free shipping and ironically, I can’t think of anything else I want right now.

  4. Antof9 Says:

Shanda — veggies and dip would be great, if that’s ok? That can balance out anything unhealthy about the pizza 🙂

    Upcoming books:
    1. We talked about “Snow in August”, which I have for everyone after a successful visit to Goodwill and the used book store.

    2. if we’re into June at that point, the paperback of “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle” should be out. If not, we’ll need to insert something else in between 1 and 2.

    3. “The Vote”, which we’ve discussed before and your sister just re-mentioned.

    4. “Cutting the/for Stone” by Abraham Verghese.

    5. “Drood” by Dan Simmons (fictional story about Dickens) — not out in paperback yet, so we can move if needed.

    6. “Harmony Silk Farmer”

    7. up for grabs. I’d love to read “Bleak House” but if everyone else is OD’d on Dickens at this point, I can just read it by myself.

  5. Kylle Says:

Matt and I will bring some kind of dessert. Don’t expect anything homemade though, unless it can be made out of Easter dinner mashed potatoes, paper plates, and assorted spices.

  6. antof9 Says:

    That’s pretty funny 🙂 I think non-homemade is fine!

  7. April aka InspectorLuv aka Fugly Says:

I guess we’re not meeting this week. I will be planting trees early tomorrow morning for Arbor Day anyway. See ya next week.

  8. shanda Says:

I was wondering the same thing. Enjoy the tree planting & see you next week
