I’ve been trying to find some kind of book discussion for this book. For some reason I thought it was a lot more popular (stateside) then it really is. But I did find out that it was written in 1998. I did run across someone’s blog who had the following to say about Nightwatch:
“This is trash-fiction. What I mean by that is this book is not groundbreaking, it isn’t something that you would pass down to your children, it’s probably on par with most sci-fi fantasy novels, nothing really outstanding. There aren’t any vast, brain stretching concepts. You should also understand this isn’t always a bad thing. As long as you understand what your reading, and don’t expect more than it is.”
I was a bit offended. I mean Sergei may not be the next Dickens but I don’t think its trash-fiction. There are so many interesting philosophical concepts in the book. And lest strangers think I’m merely a sci-fi reading nerd defending the craft…I’m not. Well I had my day of reading certain sci-fi but I grew out of the SFO (sci-fi only) stage. I’m a little hurt that this man (from Missouri) would try to thwart my attempts to getting many people to read this book. Anyway just remember…Don’t judge a book by some morons blog entry.
